Barcelona Star Reject Number 4 Jersey

Barcelona have reshuffled several squad numbers ahead of the 2026/27 campaign following changes to their squad, but Eric Garcia has declined the opportunity to inherit the No. 4 shirt, according to Barca Universal on Monday, September 7, 2026.

Journalist Nil Sola of Que t’hi Jugues revealed that Barcelona offered Garcia the No. 4 jersey after Ronald Araujo left temporarily for Liverpool on loan. Despite the availability of the prestigious number, Garcia decided that he would rather retain his existing shirt.

The defender reportedly made that choice because of his respect for Araujo, who had worn No. 4 and served as part of Barcelona's leadership group. Garcia therefore chose to continue wearing No. 24, a number he has become familiar with during his time at the club.

Barcelona subsequently gave the No. 4 shirt to young defender Brian Farinas, who was promoted to the first-team registration during the summer. Farinas will wear the jersey during Araujo's temporary spell away from the club, while other squad numbers have also been changed.

Garcia's decision further highlights the strong relationship he shares with Araujo and the respect between the two defenders. The 25-year-old has also earned considerable respect within the Barcelona dressing room because of his professionalism, attitude and commitment to the team.

His importance to Barcelona has continued to grow, particularly with his role at right-back. Garcia has also been included in the club's captaincy group this season, joining Raphinha, Pedri, Lamine Yamal and Frenkie de Jong.

Garcia's fitness briefly became a concern during Barcelona's match against Valencia on Sunday when he was replaced after a collision involving Rodri. Medical examinations later revealed that he had fractured his nose, although the injury is considered minor.
